Meteomedia. Weather is Our Focus
Today, Meteomedia, established in 1990 by Jörg Kachelmann, is one of the leading weather services in Europe. With about 100 employees, Meteomedia has subsidiaries in Germany, Switzerland, Canada and the USA.
The core of our company is our extremely extensive private Weather Station Measurement Network. With about 815 stations, it is one of Europe’s largest measurement networks.
Thanks to the outstanding quality of our forecasts, our extensive experience in the energy sector, and our superb customer service, numerous customers of any kind of weather-dependent industry place their trust in us.
Local Forecasting Requires Local Measuring
Precise weather forecasts (esp. severe) are critical key features in our work. This is why we expend significant efforts in expanding our infrastructure. Observation data, computer models, satellite and radar images from all over the world arrive at our weather centers in Gais (Switzerland) and Bochum (Germany) around the clock. Alongside Meteomedia’s Measurement Network, our meteorologists are provided with data from approximately 14,000 weather stations worldwide. In fact, Meteomedia has one of Europe’s most extensive weather databases.
Continuously growing amount of local measurement values are combined with the most thorough evaluatory forecast models. For example, Switzerland’s severe weather warning model has a resolution of 4 x 4 km making it Europe’s leading model.
Severe Weather Warnings at a Click
Meteomedia successfully runs Severe Weather Centers informing government agencies, insurance companies and other interested parties around the clock on severe weather warnings. An significant portion of our available services are offered on the following Internet portals of our Severe Weather Centers: www.unwetterzentrale.de, www.meteocentrale.ch and www.vigilance-meteo.fr. The basis of professional and exact severe weather forecasts is the evaluation of leading weather models - both national and international - as well as company-own prediction methods.
This forms an absolutely essential service not only for numerous weather-dependent industries but also for the general public.
